Franchise FAQs.

Everything you wanted to ask before applying.

How much capital do I need?+

£35,000 in working capital covers your first kit batch, van livery, training, and roughly two months of running costs while installs ramp up. No franchise fee is required upfront — we recover our costs from royalty on revenue.

Do I need MCS certification myself?+

No. You operate under British Solar's MCS umbrella as a sub-contractor for the first 12 months. After that, most franchisees apply for their own MCS so they can quote independently for commercial work. We help with the application.

Is my territory exclusive?+

Yes. Each UK postcode area is owned by one franchisee. Any customer entering a postcode in your area on britishsolar.co.uk is routed to you automatically, including leads from our national TV and digital advertising.

How many leads will I get?+

On average 60+ qualified leads per month per postcode area, depending on local demand. Conversion to install runs at 8–12%, giving most territories 4–7 installs per month in year one.

What does it cost to run?+

8% royalty on installed revenue, plus a small monthly marketing levy that funds national brand campaigns. There are no per-lead fees and no minimum monthly spend.

Can I install equipment from other suppliers?+

No — our central supply deal is part of the proposition. It gives you wholesale pricing on Tier 1 panels, GivEnergy batteries, and Solis/Fox inverters that you couldn't get independently at your volume.

What happens if I want to exit?+

After year 2, you can sell your territory to another approved operator. British Solar has first right of refusal. There's a 6-month notice period so we can re-route leads cleanly.

Who handles customer complaints and warranty claims?+

You handle local workmanship claims; British Solar handles all manufacturer warranty claims and any HIES insurance-backed cover. We provide a shared customer-success team for the first 12 months.
